High representative Kaya Kalas said that the European Association is a strong partner of the United Nations. Multilateral cooperation is the only way to deal with collective challenges and to protect international peace and security.

‘Unlawful war of aggression’
Kaya Kalas condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and caused him an illegal war of aggression, whose aim was to ruin another UN member country.
According to him, with the return of Russian military forces and the bombing on Ukraine, this war can be immediately ended.
High representative Kalas warned that the results of this war reach far from Ukraine, there is disruption in global food and energy markets, and other countries including Korea Democratic Public Republic and Iran are also getting entangled.
“Therefore, we have to focus our efforts in Ukraine on achieving a justified and permanent peace as soon as possible.”

Assistance effort in Gaza
High representative Kalas, referring to the crisis in Gaza Strip, assured that the European Union is committed to providing life saving assistance to the common citizens trapped in violent conflicts.
“The ceasefire is in force in Gaza, but the delicate situation remains.” If there is any disruption in the support supply, then there will be a bad effect on the serious situation already.
The high representative stressed that it is mandatory that humanitarian aid should not be politicized nor any conditions should be imposed. All the obstacles coming in the path of transporting humanitarian aid will have to be removed.
He expressed the support of the European Union for two-nation solutions and described it as the only option for sustainable peace and security in the Middle East region.
Trusted partner in unstable world
Kaya Kalas said that the European Union, along with the United Nations, is constantly trying to maintain multilateralism, human rights and international law system.
He stressed that it is important to maintain the financial stability of the UN. About one-third of the funds for United Nations agencies, funds and programs are contributed by EU member countries.
The high representative said that there are three major threats for global peace and security: terrorism, deliberately spreading wrong information, and attacks on gender equality.
Expressing the resolve of the European Union in the fight against terrorism, he said that the campaign to tamper with information and deliberately spread misleading information on online mediums is being strengthened.
According to Kaya Kalas, there are important relations in women’s rights and democratic tolerance, but efforts are being made to hurt the progress made towards women empowerment.
