Gaza: 9 out of 10 people do not have clean water, UNICEF

On Sunday, the situation has become worse after Israel’s decision to cut the power supply of the Gaza Strip to increase the pressure on Hamas on the issue of the release of the bandits. Due to the cutting of power supply, the water purification campaign has been disrupted.

Rosalia Bolein, an officer of UNICEF in Gaza, said that in November 2024, 60 thousand people who had access to drinking water have been denied water supply again.

He said, “It is really very important to restore this water supply for thousands of families and children.”

United Nations agencies estimate that 18 lakh people need immediate water, hygiene and hygiene assistance. Half of them are of children.

United Nations Assistance Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philipse Lazarini said in Geneva on Monday that at the moment “the situation has become the same as, as it was built in October 2023.”

Dislocation in the west coast

Philippe Lazarini attracted attention to the growing crisis in Israel’s western coast, where Israel’s military operations, such a large number of Palestinian people have been displaced, which is the highest since 1967.

About 40 thousand people have been forced to escape from their homes, including many refugees. And due to the intensive military activities of Israel, the entire community and settlements have become empty.

In Rafah located in the southern area of Gaza Strip, some people gathered for food, in a building collapsed in war. The 15 -month war in Gaza has caused huge destruction.

Mahayukta Philippe Lazarini has condemned the operation of this agency – UNRWA systematically in the west coast and eastern Yuochelum after Israel was banned by Israel.

In this context, he pointed to “the municipality by the municipality to vacate its campus and to stop services”, including cases of depriving or expelting of international employees of entry.

Philippe Lazari warned that Israeli efforts to weaken the agency through suspension of the availability of funds, through the propaganda of legislation and false information create a serious threat to regional stability.

Call for uninterrupted access

In the Qabise Palestinian region, Humanitarian Assistance Coordinator Muhannad Hadi has called for “immediately” to resume the Gaza entry of life -saving assistance, as the progress achieved during the ceasefire will affect the progress made during the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Philippe Lazarini emphasized the importance of a political structure to prevent the crisis from growing.

He referred to all the ongoing diplomatic efforts, including the league proposals of Saudi Arabia, European Union and Arab countries, implementing a two-country solution and transferring human services to the Palestinian-led institutions.

He said while paying attention, “If there is political will power, human help supply can be uninterrupted and smooth.”

Money availability crisis

As the crisis is exposed, in such a situation, UNRWA is also struggling with serious financial obstacles. The finance crisis of the agency has increased even more due to postponement of its money donation by major donors.

Philippe Lazarini urged the member countries to continue the operation of UNRWA until a clear political solution is found out.

He warned that premature cuts in support of this agency would intensify the demand for return or rehabilitation of Palestinians.

He said, “The rights of Palestinian refugees are also different from the existence of this agency.”

He stressed that without any viable option, ending the mandate of UNRWA, the suffering of the common people will increase further.
