Budget 2023: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a special savings scheme for women in his budget speech on Wednesday 1 February. This savings scheme has been named ‘Mahila Samman Bachat Patra’. It is a lump sum amount of saving scheme, which will be 2 years old. Nirmala Sitharaman said, “The government will release women’s honor savings letters, which will be for two years. Under this, for two years in the name of a woman or girl, it will be able to deposit up to two lakh rupees.” The Finance Minister said that the government will pay 7.75% annually to those investing under this scheme. Under this scheme, investment can be made by the year 2025. The Finance Minister said that this new small budget plan has been launched keeping in mind the ‘Amrit Mahotsav of independence’. Apart from this, the Finance Minister had announced to increase the limit of up to Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh under the Senior Citizen Savings Scheme. At the same time, under the monthly income account scheme, the existing limit of Rs 4.5 lakh is being increased to Rs 9 lakh. However, this facility will be available only to taxpayers choosing new tax systems. The tax exemption limit remains at Rs 5 lakh under the old tax regime. Changes in tax slab have also changed the slab of income tax under the new tax regime. The new tax rate of individual income tax will now be zero from annual income of Rs 0-3 lakh, 5%from 3 to 6 lakh rupees, 6 to 9 lakh rupees 10%, 9 to 12 lakh rupees 15%, 12 to 15 lakh rupees from 12 to 15 lakh rupees and 30%above 15 lakhs.
