Gilbert F Hongbo, during his visit, met with India’s Labor Minister Mansukh Mandavia and stressed the importance of social dialogue and counseling between the government, employers and labor organizations during his speech on social justice held in New Delhi.
He said that this type of participation is necessary in shaping policies promoting economic and social stability.

The Director General of ILO appreciated the increase in social security coverage in India. According to ILO’s latest World Social Security Report 2024-26, almost half of the country’s population, ie 48.8%, is now taking advantage of one type of coverage, which shows an increase in the previous figure of 24.4%.
Highlighting his living Wage initiative, the ILO chief said that millions of salaried worldwide are still living in poverty due to insufficient salary.
He said that this initiative has the ability to benefit millions of workers who get low salary and strengthen economic tolerance. He urged India to join this initiative.
The ILO chief visited the global capacity center at Gurugram and said that emerging technology and digital trends are shaping the employment market and India’s young working population can avail it immensely.
He also met the United Nations country team in India to discuss the ways of strengthening labor market policies, expanding social security and promoting responsible business practices.
